A Celebration of the Life of Warren Burwell

Our family would love for you to join in the celebration of Dad's life.

Here are the details you need to know:

Saturday, June 22, 2024

2:00 PM - 2:30 PM: Service (All are Welcome)

2:30 PM - 5:00 PM: Visitation with the Family

Event Details

Things to Know:

Where To Be:  We'll be gathering at the beautiful River Haven property in Athens, GA.

The address is:  785 Riverbend Parkway Athens, GA 30605.

Please carpool if you can - parking will be limited.  (We'll be looking to set up off-site parking.  Message Leigh for details.)

When To Be There:  The official "service" will start at 2:00 PM, and run approximately 30 minutes.  If you'd like to stay, share funny stories, hug our necks, or just share space for a bit, you're welcome to stick around.  We'll be hosting folks until 5:00 PM.

What To Wear:  Please plan to be polished casual.  Mom has asked that you leave the black clothes in the closet and pick something colorful to wear.

Who Should Come:  We can't wait to see you!  Friends, family, colleagues, people from church, his doctors, his college roommates; we'd love to see any and all of you.  You're welcome to bring your children - this will be family-friendly.

(Note:  For those of you with kids that like to get into all bodies of water, there is a river in the back of the property.  Moms & Dads, you may wish to bring an extra change of clothes! )

What to Bring:  Just yourselves.  We'll have some nibbles and beverages available to enjoy after the service.  If you have any wonderful "Warren" stories to share, you know we'd love to hear them.

Some people have asked if they can bring food.  (We're Southern - we love a good casserole!)  You don't NEED to bring anything -- but if you feel moved, this is the best place to bring/deliver food.

What if I Can't Attend?   In our family, we never measure love by physical presence, and we TOTALLY understand the challenges of travel and busy schedules. (Mom and Dad raised five kids, after all!)  We have been so moved by the beautiful Facebook messages, thoughtful e-mails, and loving cards that we've received.  Thank you for remembering us.  If you wish to share the ways that Dad left a mark on your life, it would mean the world.

If you'd like some ideas about how to celebrate across the miles....

1)  Send us your story.

Make a short video of your favorite "Warren" story and send it our way!  (LeighBSmith@gmail.com).

2)  Mail Mom a card.

If you've ever been touched by loss, you know how hard the change can be.  As thankful as we are that Dad is no longer in pain, Mom surely feels the big, empty quiet in her life now.  She'd love to hear from you.

You're welcome to message Leigh (LeighBSmith@gmail.com or 706-296-7628 (call/text)) for her address.

3) Give to a Teacher.

Dad spent 25 years in the classroom, helping change middle-school minds on the general awesomeness of math. We've started an Amazon "wish list" of school supplies that teachers always seem to need.  If you want to send something, please feel free to browse the list -- and we'll give this bounty to the amazing teachers in the Athens area.   You can find the link to the registry here.

4)  Enjoy a Five Guys burger.

One of Dad's FAVORITE things was a delicious Five Guys burger.  The right-most photo in the header is of the twinkle in his eye as he was about to dig in!  Call one of your family members and enjoy a burger in Dad's honor.  He'll grin ear-to-ear at the remembrance.  :-)
